Effective laser hair removal
Do you want smooth skin without the pain of waxing? We can help. At ABL Clinic in Accrington, we are skilled in the technique of laser hair removal. We will give you fantastic results in a few sessions.
Say hello to beautiful skin
At ABL Clinic we employ cutting edge technology from Lumenis to treat unwanted hair in all areas of the body. We use the Lumenis LightSheer DESIRE launched in April 2014 to give you fabulous results.
We are the first clinic in the UK to use this machine. Unlike the commonly known IPL/VPL machines that are used in most salons, the DESIRE safely targets the hair follicle at the root. This is a virtually pain free method of hair removal.
We have the advantage of having two interchangeable hand pieces for the DESIRE – the ET which allows the smaller delicate areas to be targeted and the HS which is a larger vacuum hand piece which allows larger areas to be treated quickly.
Whether your body hair is fine or thick, it can be treated using the LightSheer DESIRE. We include a cooling down session after each laser treatment to ensure you are comfortable and relaxed during the procedure.
Our friendly and professional team will take care that your experience of laser hair removal is pleasant. We always review our prices to give you great value for your money.
LASER VS IPL
As a patient, trying to understand the differences between Laser and IPL/VPL for hair removal and deciding which method is the right one for you can be very confusing due to the general absence of sound advice and intelligible technical details.
To begin with, you should know that both laser and IPL work on removing unwanted hair in essentially the same way. Both require that the region to be treated is shaved prior to the procedure. Both convert light energy into heat energy which will heat up the hair follicle, prompting the bulb of the hair to fall out thus reducing hair growth. However this is where the similarity ends.
The main difference between Laser and IPL is the process by which the light is produced, the type of light, and how well it is absorbed by different hair and skin types.
Most salons state that they use Laser Hair Removal machines when in fact they mostly use the VPL/IPL (Variable/Intense Pulse Light). The IPL machines are much cheaper to manufacture but unfortunately the light is “one-size-fits-all” in terms of its effectiveness on the hair.
The laser is an intensely concentrated beam of light where the energy is extremely focused rather than diffused so it is very precise, offering more powerful and accurate results. There are many types of lasers of various wavelengths for specific purposes. Each one is chosen for optimum effectiveness and safety for particular hair and skin types. During the initial consultation, we carefully tune the laser to your individual skin and hair type, making sure you get the best possible results.
IPL is far less effective than laser hair removal. The energy is produced by a lamp, a little like a light bulb. This energy is produced in the form of a variety of light waves, meaning it diffuses a broad band of light in the visible spectrum, typically 550 to 1100 nanometres. However, the optimum wavelengths for treating most hair types fall into 700 to 850 nanometre range.
The less powerful broad-beam of light targets everything in its path and is unable to reach and destroy the roots of deeper hair. It also means that more treatment sessions will be required to achieve the desired results.
Furthermore, IPL cannot be used on sun-exposed or darker skin, nor is it effective on all hair and skin types, thus making it less versatile than a laser treatment. It can also cause damage to pigment producing cells, which can result in patches of darker or lighter skin.
If you have any further questions about this procedure, our staff will be happy to advise you. We have listed some FAQs to help you understand this treatment better.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many treatments will I need?
Hair colour, density, location and skin type are all contributing factors of how many treatments you will require. We recommend that you take up a course of between 6-10 treatments. You may also need a few maintenance treatments with high-energy lasers like the one used at ABL Clinic, Accrington.
Will my hair type and colour respond?
Thick, dark hair usually responds best to laser. However, you may get very effective results even if you have fine, light coloured hair. White, white-blonde and some red coloured hair will not respond well. This is common to all lasers so beware of false promises.
Do I need a patch test?
All clinics should ALWAYS do a patch test on every area you wish to treat due to the varied sensitivity of the skin on different parts of the body. You must have a patch test at least 48 hours before treating the whole area.
How much will it cost?
As stated before, IPL is usually cheaper than Laser as the machines they use are a lot cheaper and the results are far less effective. Cheaper isn’t always better as the quality of the treatment will most likely be compromised.
Laser may seem expensive, but with this treatment you know that you will receive results that lasts compared to IPL, waxing or threading.
Patch tests are £5 per area and prices start from £25 per session. So feel free to visit ABL Clinic for a free consultation.
Had my eyebrows tinted and threaded by Asma, my brows are the most elegantly shaped and defined they've ever been. Also, when tinting my lashes she really took her time to make sure they were all coated in tint and that not even a tiny bit went in my eye. I am very impressed with the overall experience.
They are absolutely great in all treatments. Thanks to Debbie for doing my hair today. I absolutely love it. I also thank Asma for always doing a great job with my eyebrows. Definitely recommend this place. Thank you to all staff.

Excellent work, people, place, and I personally recommend it for cupping. Thanks bash.
I've just left the salon after having a massage with Roxy, this was purchased as a gift from the girls in the Spa I work in. Being a therapist myself I always have higher standards when it comes to having treatments. I'm very relaxed now, it was the perfect combination of firm and gentle! Already booked my next one and going to try a luxury microdermabrasion next week!
I cannot thank the staff enough at ABL CLINIC!! When I first walked in 7 months ago I had no self-confidence due to various illnesses which had affected the way I looked and felt about myself. The staff have since helped me lose 2 stones in body fat, removed my facial hair with diode Laser sessions and generally made me feel good about myself. They are my GODSEND!!! I cannot recommend this place enough and the best part is you have everything under one roof
